Assessment and treatment of disc-related pressure on the leg nerves
Lumbar microdiscectomy removes the part of a herniated disc that is pressing on a nerve to the leg. Suitability depends on the symptoms, examination and matching imaging findings. Not every herniated disc needs an operation; non-surgical treatment may be appropriate for the individual case.
Magnified visualization to support careful handling of the nerves
The surgical microscope gives a magnified view of the nerves and surrounding tissues to help the surgeon remove the disc fragment causing compression. Dr. Mohamed Nawar, a spine surgeon, performs this procedure. The main aim is to relieve leg pain caused by nerve pressure. Expected benefits, risks and alternatives are discussed during assessment.
1
The surgery requires an opening of approximately 1.5 cm, minimizing tissue trauma and accelerating recovery
2
Patients can walk, sit, and sleep comfortably shortly after surgery
3
Most patients resume driving and light physical activities within a short recovery period
